Leading bottled water brand Brecon Carreg will be announcing several initiatives to work towards a more sustainable future at its 40th anniversary event next week.

The organisation, which has been shortlisted for the Welsh Government Responsible SME of the Year Award at the Wales Responsible Business Awards 2018, will be establishing a partnership with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David to create a circular economy taskforce.

The taskforce will aim to identify potential opportunities to drive circular economy innovation through best practice, tools and strategies.

In addition, Brecon Carreg will be working with Spadel brands across Europe on a research project looking at consumer attitudes towards sustainability.

Full details of the organisation’s plans will be announced at its anniversary event on Wednesday 30 May at Brecon House.

The event will celebrate what Brecon Carreg has achieved since it was founded in 1978, and outline how it will continue to grow and develop sustainably.

Details of the brand’s sustainability report will also be shared ahead of its online launch on 1 June 2018.

Brecon Carreg is still based in Llandeilo, Camarthenshire where it was first established, and uses the original water source from the spring around the corner from the factory.

Jenna Bissell, marketing manager at Brecon Carreg Mineral Water, said:

“As a Welsh brand based in an area of outstanding natural beauty in West Wales, preserving nature and the environment has always been crucial to us.

“The three biggest suppliers for our packaging are based locally and our bottles are also 100 per cent recyclable, but we’re always working to improve our brand and find ways to make our business practices more sustainable.

“We’re proud to be working with so many great organisations on joint initiatives and are looking forward to announcing these in full at our 40th anniversary celebration next week.”
