Why annual boiler maintenance is an absolutely essential

Having a fully functioning heating system is essential for any household. In fact, in our previous post ‘Not Checking Heating System Biggest Regret Of House Buyers In Wales’, home buyers explained how they regretted not checking the heating systems of their prospective homes since it can be a big source of stress and added expenses if it isn’t working properly.

Despite its importance, a lot of people often overlook boiler servicing. Plumbing experts HomeServe outline how important proper boiler maintenance is for homeowners as it will ensure that you reduce the chances of any unexpected and costly breakdowns. A comprehensive maintenance service will include a flue check, gas pressure check, and component check to make sure your boiler is safe and efficient. As always prevention is better than the cure – so before your boiler starts acting up, consider having it checked. If you are still not convinced, here are some more reasons why you should have your boiler serviced:

    It’s cheaper than replacement

More often than not, having your boiler serviced will cost less than replacing it. According to Love Money, the cost of a new boiler and its installation ranges from £1,040 to £4,250 while a maintenance check is between £60 and £100. An annual maintenance check increases the lifespan of your boiler by decreasing the likelihood of your boiler breaking down.

It can save money on your electric bills

More than half of what people spend on energy goes to heating. That being said, having your boiler serviced is important since it can ensure efficiency. Efficient appliances use less energy, which makes them ideal for those who want to cut back on their energy bill. However, it is worth noting that the extent of your boiler’s energy efficiency will also depend on the number of years it has been with you and not just on how regularly its maintained.

It decreases the risk of failure

It’s easy to forget that your boiler isn’t just used during the cold months of the year, but also every time you use hot water. Islington Gazette’s article explained that having your boiler serviced annually will help you identify problems that may get worse through time. With regular checks, you can rest assured that your boiler will perform when you need it the most.

    It maintains the manufacturer warranty

If your boiler comes with a warranty, the best way to maintain it is by having your boiler serviced on an annual basis. If your boiler is not serviced within 12 months, the warranty or insurance could potentially be nullified. Make sure you book an annual service on time.

    It keeps the family safe

Regular boiler servicing can help you become aware of minor issues before they become expensive, irreparable and dangerous to fix. Ideal Home highlighted that both oil and gas boilers can potentially emit carbon monoxide (CO). By having your boiler checked on a regular basis, you can keep your family safe by preventing them from inhaling such a poisonous substance.

Boilers are essential for keeping our homes comfy and cosy especially during the winter. This is why it is absolutely essential that we make it a habit to have it checked.
