Wales’s biggest sporting charity has raised £25,000 for disadvantaged and disabled children following another triumphant year for its annual Christmas lunches.

The Lord’s Taverners Wales Christmas lunches, sponsored by Hodge Bank, took place over two days at the Cardiff Marriott hotel and the SSE SWALEC, in December attracting more than 550 guests.

Supporters were treated to a three-course meal as well as top entertainment from Stringfever, comedians Terry Alderton and Paul Boardman, entertainer Damon Scott, and TV and radio star, and Taverners regular, Mike Osman was MC at the Marriott event. The renowned Taverners auction boasted an impressive list of prizes on offer, including a visit to the Aston Martin factory in Warwickshire, the chance to be a mascot for an England cricket match, and a corporate day at Chespstow Racecourse.

The charity, which aims to give disabled and disadvantaged children ‘a sporting chance’ through the provision of sports equipment, specially adapted minibuses and funding, has hosted the lunches for the last 34 years.

Ed Meggitt, Chairman of the Lord’s Taverners Wales said: “We take pride every December in hosting our celebrated Christmas lunches and work hard to ensure we produce a first class show that most importantly raises a significant amount of money for disadvantaged youngsters across Wales. This year was no exception and the £25,000 raised is phenomenal. We thank everyone who came to the lunches and who supported us throughout the year to make this possible, and are looking forward to a busy and just as successful 2018.”
