Credas, the tech start-up which has developed ground-breaking facial recognition software to speed up identity verification across a range of sectors, scooped a coveted Wales Online Digital Award for Best Emerging Technology on Friday afternoon (8th).

The awards celebrate the individuals and organisations which are driving innovation and growth across digital technology in Wales, the UK and further afield, and aim to recognise the best in Welsh business.

Credas’ CEO Rhys David said on taking home the award:

“Wales is becoming well known for its thriving digital sector and is home to so many exciting tech businesses, with more being developed every day. We were up against some outstanding companies at the Wales Digital Awards and to be recognised as a leading digital innovator among such tough competition is amazing.

“We have an exceptional team behind us at Credas who work incredibly hard at driving innovation, and to win this award is really a testament to their dedication. It’s been an exceptional year for us and we’ve managed to surpass all expectations we had for our first year in business.”

The company celebrated its first anniversary in business this May, and along with Friday’s award win it has made a number of significant achievements in the last 12 months.

Starting with two employees, the team now has 14 staff behind it and has over 50 customers across the estate agency, accountancy, legal, recruitment, and construction sectors. It has also secured its first cryptocurrency client, heralding a move into another new sector.

It has formed partnerships with the ESTAS (The Estate Agent of the Year Awards) and The Guild of Property Professionals and was shortlisted for two awards at the ESTnet Technology Awards earlier this year.

Credas has developed a suite of products and services designed to cut the time and cost it takes to verify more than 4000 types of identification. It provides an easy and secure way to match ID photos with the actual person instantly either using a mobile enabled portal. ensuring that the verification process can happen swiftly, safely and at any time that’s convenient to the client and user.

Credas’ technology works in a range of sectors, including recruiters, mortgage and finance providers and any business which needs to verify ID to comply with regulations. It can help companies comply with Right to Rent, anti-money laundering, modern slavery, know your customer and anti-fraud legislation.
