Mine visitor attraction’s ‘two for one’ offer for selected postcodes

People living in the SA, SY and LD postcodes are being offered a two for one entry discount until July 4 at a Mid Wales mine visitor attraction.

The Silver Mountain Experience at Ponterwyd, on the road between Llanidloes and Aberystwyth, is located on the site of a former silver-rich lead ore mine which dates back to the mid-1700s.

In 2012, the site was completely redeveloped to improve the access to and viewing experience of the underground areas. A new and thrilling dimension as a more family-oriented visitor attraction was added, using the original buildings as a stage set for the Silver Mountain Experience with its myths, fantasy, new tour experiences and a host of exciting interactive features.

Visitors can now explore centuries of history whilst experiencing exciting, actor led shows, such as the Dragon’s Tale.

New for 2018 are Bushcraft and Backwoods Cooking sessions every Wednesday evening throughout the summer holidays from July 25 to August 29. The event is perfect for anybody who fancies himself or herself as the next Bear Grylls.

The evening, which runs from 5pm to 9pm, begins with a masterclass from a guide, who will talk visitors through a variety of survival techniques before moving on to fire building and other bushcraft techniques.

Once the fire is burning, everyone is welcome to enjoy a BBQ before cooking desserts on an open fire. The evening ends with a variety of games set across the site. Each session is limited to 20 people and costs £22.50 per person.

Returning to The Silver Mountain Experience by popular demand, after sell-out events in February and May, are paranormal investigations on August 4 and September 22.

The paranormal investigation is performed by an expert team from Ethereal Investigations Wales who use scientific methods and attuned senses to discover if ghosts really do reside within the Victorian mines.

There have been rumours of ghosts in the mines for years, but visitors will get a chance to find out for themselves if they really exist. The event on August 4 is an all-night investigation and costs £34.95.
