Wales’ biggest science and discovery centre, Techniquest has decided to temporarily close its doors following Mondays Government recommendation- to prepare for self-isolation amid COVID-19 movement across the UK.
Techniquest has followed Government protocol since the virus was first confirmed in the UK -providing extra sanitation for visitors and staff, and maintaining a high cleaning standard. However, in current circumstances, the sensible decision has been made to close its doors on a temporary basis to eliminate the chances of the virus spreading further.
Techniquest CEO, Lesley Kirkpatrick today commented:
“This has been a really difficult decision for us to make, but also the right thing for us to do in order to truly safeguard our visitors and Techniquest colleagues, and do our bit to stop COVID-19 spreading further. We have listened to Government advice and taken the appropriate actions. We will always act accordingly and hope our decision to close will only be a on a short-term basis. There is currently so much uncertainty across the UK – but we hope the public understands our decision to not only protect them; but protect our team too, who have continually worked hard over the last few weeks to keep the centre as safe as possible. As a charity organisation, we prepare to take the hit financially, but urge anyone or any organisation who can support us during this particularly challenging time to please do so. Any support is massively appreciated.”
Techniquest is due to launch its refreshed centre in May 2020 as part of its exciting and innovative ‘Science Capital’ project. Plans for completion of the ‘Science Capital’ will be reviewed accordingly based on related events to COVID-19 over the next few weeks.
