A 9-YEAR-OLD girl who put her best foot forward on a charity walk to remember her late father has broken her own fundraising target.

Susana Vaughan took part in Nightingale House Hospice’s Midnight Walk in memory of dad, Jeff who died, aged 64, having spent 13 weeks in the Wrexham-based hospice.

Rhosddu Primary School pupil Susana and her mum Sue, 50, fundraised for the hospice which helped self-employed builder Jeff who passed away after battling seven brain tumours.

The pair finished the entire 10km Midnight Walk route, raising more than £1,000 for the hospice and smashing their target of just over £400.

Sue, a Slimming World consultant, said:

“The staff at Nightingale House supported Jeff in the last few weeks of his life and, a year on, continue to support us both.

“So far, we’re raised just over £1,100 for the hospice – more than double what we’d hoped to achieve – and the money is still coming in.

“We’re amazed and grateful at everyone’s generosity and my Slimming World members have been terrific in helping us fundraise.

“We both completed the 10k and Susana was exhausted at the end. I am so proud of her taking part and for finishing the whole walk. We can’t thank everyone enough for supporting us.”

Jeff, who was also dad to Andrew, Richard and Gavin, had battled with brain tumours for three years and underwent surgery twice at Liverpool’s Walton Hospital.

More than 700 people took part in the Midnight Walk event, with many walking in memory of a loved one.

Amanda Kinsey, the hospice’s Area Fundraiser/ Event Organiser, said the backing from people such as Sue and Susana would help make a real difference.

“So very many people gave up their time to walk for us and the patients and families we help. Susana and her mum have been nothing short of inspirational. For a 9-year-old to not just finish the walk but to raise so much money at the same time is just amazing and means a great deal to us. Each and every one of our walkers has helped make a difference and we can’t thank them all enough,” she added.

The hospice has a number of events coming up in the next few months including a duck race, and colour run. To get involved see www.nightingalehouse.co.uk
