The Walters Group have presented Jonathan Davies OBE with a donation of £20,000 for Velindre Cancer Centre – their nominated charity for 2019/20.

This incredible amount was raised by Walters’s employees who took part in various fundraising events during the year. The two key drivers for fundraising were a weekly Penyfan challenge which saw many of our employees climb Penyfan at dawn before starting their normal day – unfortunately this was halted like many of the activities, due to Coronavirus, but we have now started the weekly climb again.

Walters also donated 10p for every mile that their fleet travelled during the year, all vehicles were branded with the Velindre logo.

Significant sums were also raised at the Walters Corporate Golf Day, the Ffos Las 10th Anniversary Race Day and also by many office and on site team events such as cake sales and hair shaving.

Rugby legend Jonathan who is President of the charity said: “I am truly honoured to accept this incredibly generous donation from The Walters Group on behalf of Velindre. Coronavirus has had a huge impact on charities and made fundraising exceptionally difficult this year, so this donation really will make a huge difference to Velindre at what is such a difficult time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Walters team  for all their hard work, dedication and support.”

Huw Richards, Group Director , at Walters, commented: “We are delighted to present this donation to Velindre, a charity that was selected by our colleagues and means so much to so many of us at Walters. Coronavirus did affect us this year and so everyone was in agreement to continue to support Velindre for another year and to continue to raise more money for such a worthy cause.”

Andrew Morris Head of Fundraising at Velindre said “We are incredibly grateful to the Walters Group for raising such a wonderful amount for Velindre.

“Velindre is often called the Hospital of Hope, and this is because of fundraising.

“Money raised for Velindre ensures the best possible support is offered to every patient, their families and carers dealing with cancer. It allows us to fund specialist nurses who are fundamental to a patient’s experience, implement projects to improve the physical environment for a patient, such as our gardens and Family Room, earlier access to cutting edge treatments, research into new treatments and specialist equipment. Fundraising really does make a huge difference to Velindre.”
