Winters can be extremely long, very cold and mostly cloudy. These extreme weather conditions can be tough on your car and tougher on your car tyres. Cold weather conditions like snow, sleet and ice can reduce your tyres’ grip on road. Therefore, we have a few tips that’ll help our readers based in Kent to keep themselves safe on road:

    1. Checking Tyre Pressure

Tyre Pressure has a direct impact on your car’s braking and handling abilities; therefore, it is extremely important to maintain an optimum tyre pressure. Cold weather can drop your tyre pressure by one pound per square inch for every 10-degree temperature drop. Therefore, a close and frequent check should be kept on tyre pressure to remain safe on road.

    2. Keep a Check on Tyre Tread

Your tyre tread depth should at least be 2/32 inches deep. Uneven tread can cause severe damage; therefore, it is important to check the entire circumference of the tyre to avoid such a condition. According to most industry specialists, you should consider replacing your tyres when tread dept reaches 4/32’’ in the winter. Therefore, if your tyres are not meeting the minimum legal tyre tread dept, visit a nearby garage and get them replaced. You can Visit Dartford Tyres and get your tyres replaced from local specialists based in Kent.

    3. Choose Winter Tyres

Winter tyres are specifically designed to ensure safe and smooth driving throughout the winter season. Features like ‘soft stud tread fibers’ and ‘micro pore compounds’ enables winter tyres to offer greater flexibility, improved grip and superior traction. It should be kept in mind that whenever you go for installing winter tyres, make sure to install all four at once as mixed tyres can be dangerous to drive along with.

     4. Drive Safe!

In addition to picking the right winter tyres and taking care of your tyres, its important to drive carefully and safely in winters. Make sure you slow down or maintain a safe distance from other vehicles as braking takes longer when there’s snow, rain or ice on the road.

Also, always check your owner’s manual for specific tips that will help you in keeping your vehicle safe in cold weather conditions.
