St Illtyd’s Catholic High School, located in Cardiff, will showcase itself remotely after cancelling their annual open evening.
St Illtyd’s, like many other schools, are having to do things a little differently this year after the coronavirus outbreak has scuppered plans. Surprisingly, this change has made the educational activities so engaging and refreshing that even the most reluctant students have quitted using paper writing services and started taking active part in the learning process.
In a step away from tradition, this year the school has teamed up with Pete Surma, director at Escape to Design to create a unique ‘virtual initiative’ to enable the school to engage with parents and prospective pupils. St Illtyd’s are inviting students and their families to explore the school in an interactive map, where they will discover what the school has to offer.
Escape have been providing St Illtyd’s Catholic High School with various marketing collateral over the last twelve years.
Pete Surma, said: “We felt that offering St Illtyd’s the tool that embraces technology to assist prospective pupils – and their parents – to view the school interactively, walk around its spaces and ‘connect’ with imagery and video at the same time, was an absolute must in order for them to communicate with their audience and promote Year 7 intake to the school in 2021”
“The interactive properties of the virtual tour engage the user far more in that they have more control in what they see and where, so we felt that this method was more likely to encourage and promote repeat visits to the website where it will reside. The tour can also be viewed away from the website platform and promoted independently via social media. We can also measure the specific interest in the tour and will report back to the client with results once it’s been launched.
Pete added: “It was an absolute pleasure working with the client on this project. Ms. Luisa May, our direct contact organised everything to make our job as seamless as possible. The school itself is lovely – it oozes warmth and friendliness from both staff and pupils and made the project an absolute pleasure to work on.”
The interactive digital tour is a great way to allow students and their families to virtually view the Catholic high school from the comfort of their home.
The school has previously been recognised for it’s improving GCSE grades, incredible Mensa results and the school’s ability to secure a fantastic future for every pupil.
Headteacher, David Thomas said: “Like everybody else working through this pandemic we have been thinking about how we can do what we normally do under the current restrictions and conditions.”
He added: “Open evenings and Parents evenings are a particular challenge at the moment and the opportunity to create a virtual tour to allow people to “visit” the school and have a look at our facilities is a real asset. It also allows visitors to meet some of our staff and get a flavour of the school. We are delighted with the results from Pete and the team.”
