Age Cymru West Glamorgan, a leading charity serving Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, and Bridgend, has announced the launch of its new digital services aimed at improving the wellbeing of older people and their carers. As part of this initiative, the charity is actively seeking volunteers to help deliver these innovative services and make a meaningful difference to the lives of local older people.

In a rapidly evolving digital world, the charity is offering an exciting range of digital support services designed to help older adults and their families build confidence online. Whether it’s staying connected with loved ones through social media, shopping conveniently from home, or managing health information, the service aims to empower individuals to engage with technology in meaningful ways.

Beyond the standard digital services, Age Cymru West Glamorgan is excited to introduce an innovative Virtual Reality (VR) experience. Through VR, carers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in tailored experiences such as museum tours, mindfulness sessions, and virtual nature walks. These experiences offer a form of self-care, helping carers to relax and socialise, all while benefiting from the charity’s wider Information and Advice Services.

Volunteers will play a crucial role in teaching essential digital skills while also providing advice and guidance on how to stay safe online. This comprehensive digital support will allow older people to embrace the benefits of technology while helping to ensure that their personal information remains secure.

Chief Executive of Age Cymru West Glamorgan, Connor James, said:  “We are thrilled to be able to offer these digital services to the community. Our goal is to ensure that older individuals and their carers are equipped with the skills and confidence needed to navigate the digital world, as well as access much-needed self-care and wellbeing resources through innovative tools like virtual reality.

“Volunteers will be at the heart of this initiative, working directly with older people and carers to build their confidence in using digital tools, while also providing a compassionate ear and a helping hand.”

The charity encourages anyone interested in supporting their local community and championing older people to benefit from the digital world, to get in touch. Those interested can submit an enquiry form here: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/cymru/west-glamorgan/get-involved/volunteer/digital-champion-volunteer/.
