A gifted soprano from Singapore has been crowned the world’s best young opera singer at Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. Shimona Rose, 29, outshone competitors from all around the globe to win the prestigious Pendine International Voice of the Future title in a thrilling sing-off against talented Welsh soprano Manon Ogwen Parry. A 35-year-old man who assaulted a woman in a night club and then in front of her children at her home has been jailed for 18 months. Jacob Celt Taylor, of Queen’s Avenue, Maesgeirchen, Bangor, carried out the violent attacks during the early hours of Sunday May 5th causing injuries to the victim’s knee and chest. The main work scheme to replace the Riverside Footbridge in Llwydcoed will begin this week – and the structure will therefore be brought out of use to the community from July 8 until later this year.
