Staff, students and friends who took part in this year’s Swansea University Half Marathon have smashed through their fundraising total and collected more than £20,000 to boost mental health care and support. The total has overtaken last year’s tally and is still rising as more money rolls in after the successful event. Empowering marginalised writers to make their voices heard will be the focus of an event held by creative writing experts at Aberystwyth University next month. The University’s Centre for Creativity and Wellbeing is organising a ‘Marginalised Writers TakeOver Day’ on Saturday 13 July, in Tŷ Trafod in the Visualisation Centre on Penglais Campus. The day is aimed at writers who are marginalised by factors including racism, ableism, low income, homophobia, anti-trans bias, or classism. Work to demolish a former school building in south Powys will begin next week, the county council has said. Powys County Council will oversee the demolition of the former Bronllys school with work starting on Monday, July 1. The building has been unoccupied since the school closed in 2017. The demolition work is being carried out on health and safety grounds and is expected to be completed by the end of July.  The work will be undertaken by Bond Demolition on behalf of the council between the hours of 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday. Motorists are advised the section of the A465 between the A470 (Cefn Coed) junction and the temporary roundabout at Pant Industrial Estate will be fully closed for five weeks this summer, to allow for important work to be completed sooner and with less uncertainty for the travelling public. Aldi is on the hunt for new store locations in Wales as part of its rapid expansion drive. Last month, the UK’s fourth largest supermarket called on the nation to get in touch to highlight where in Britain needed new Aldi stores most.
