Some waste collections in Cardiff are likely to be impacted immediately after Christmas following Unite’s decision to strike between Thursday, December 28, and Thursday, January 25. Cardiff Council is putting a plan in place to maintain services and they have apologised in advance to residents for any inconvenience. During the strike the council has said it aims to run all collection services as normal, apart from hygiene. Anyone registered with the hygiene service will have their hygiene waste collected every fortnight with black bag/black bin waste. Pembrokeshire County Council have been receiving complaints from members of the public relating to odours originating from the Withyhedge Landfill site. Officers from the Council’s Planning and Public Protection Services have visited the facility this week alongside officers from Natural Resources Wales (NRW). Work will begin in the new year on renovating the inside of Trinity Chapel, Abertillery, to house a new modern library, together with new office/learning and community space. Children from Ysgol y Castell, had a special treat just before Christmas as they visited Caerphilly Castle, to see the conservation work being carried out in the castle’s Great Hall. Phase I of the work, which includes the refurbishment of the medieval Great Hall, installation of visitor access paths and ramps, comprehensive new interpretation, and the construction of a wildflower garden, started on 7 August 2023 and will run through to summer next year.
