A nine-year-old girl from the Vale of Clwyd over-ruled her mum to book a place at show-jumping’s blue riband event, the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead this summer. The Poundland Foundation – the charity launched by the retailer last year – has today opened up a two-week window for the latest round of grants made available for children’s sports organisations across the UK. Grassroots sports groups from every part of the country are invited to apply for support of up to £750 for new kits and around £210,000 will be available to award 280 grants. Entries to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Heart Hero Awards 2022 are now open and the charity is asking people across Wales to nominate their local Heart Hero. Twenty-two charities and community groups providing crisis support to people facing food poverty have received funding from Swansea Council. The demand for foodbanks and other support has increased in recent months and so an additional £42,000 was made available to the council from the Welsh Government. Among the organisations to successfully apply for funding were Birchgrove Foodbank, Congolese Development Project, Matthew’s House, Pontarddulais Partnership, SAM Recovery,  St Thomas’ Church, The Centre for African Entrepreneurship and The Wallich.
