Discussions between Bridgend County Borough Council, Bridgend Athletic RFC and Bridgend Sports RFC about working in partnership to assist with maintenance on the pavilions at Newbridge Fields have received the backing of a Welsh rugby star. Essential building works have already been completed by the local authority on the New Pavilion and Bandstand Pavilion, which were in a poor state of repair. An innovative new scheme to provide affordable homes for people at risk of homelessness can move to the next stage. Newport City Council is leasing part of Hill Street car park to Linc Cymru for a supported housing project. Twelve self-contained flats will provide “move-on” accommodation, for people who have been in temporary accommodation, in a location close to essential services. Local charities in Wales helped Aldi donate more than 54,000 meals to people in need over the Easter school holidays. The supermarket paired up its stores with local charities, community groups and foodbanks to donate surplus food, prioritising donations to those focused on feeding children. Around 149 tonnes of food were donated throughout the UK, with more than 250,000 meals donated to causes supporting families and children in need.
