One of the UK’s newest private schools, Myddelton College, in Denbigh, has gained a 100 per cent pass rate at GCSE. When the results came out today the co-educational day and boarding school, only founded in 2016, announced that all 28 Year 11 students had gained passes in all subjects. An “exceptional” police hero is being put forward for two top honours after helping to save two lives in just two days. Armed response officer PC Richard Shea is being nominated for an official commendation from North Wales Police and a Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society award. Ogmore Vale Bowls Club has received a helping hand to purchase specialist youth equipment which it hopes will boost the uptake of the sport amongst young people. Morrisons is offering free water refills nationwide at all of its petrol forecourts, as well as in store, to encourage customers and motorists to make the switch from single-use plastic to refillable bottles. Over 14 billion single-use plastic bottles are used each year in the UK – equal to 39 million a day – with the majority purchased on-the-go or at work. An instore scheme to help wilko customers recycle their masks has proved so successful that the home and garden retailer will extend it by another three months. The scheme, which allows shoppers to drop off used, disposable face masks so that they can be recycled will now be in place until the end of September 2021. Newcastle Higher Community Council has taken over responsibility for Penyfai Playing Fields after agreeing a 35-year lease with Bridgend County Borough Council. The transfer, which was finalised earlier this month, is the latest to be completed as part of the local authority’s Community Asset Transfer (CAT) programme. The community council’s plans for improving improve the facilities at Penyfai Playing Fields, which are next to the Pheasant pub, include resurfacing the pathway and installing noticeboards, lighting and additional bins for litter and dog waste. A number of businesses across Bridgend County Borough are set to receive a grant of up to £10,000 to help install outdoor facilities including seating areas, gazebos and patio heaters. The Outdoor Improvements Covid-19 Recovery Fund has targeted external areas where customers and members of the public can congregate, rest or enjoy food and drink.
