Old X-rays taken in a Swansea hospital where patients were treated for cancer are set to get a new lease of life in the form of Welsh jewellery.  Staff at the South West Wales Cancer Centre in the city’s Singleton Hospital teamed up with a specialist company to recover silver from the X-rays before they were destroyed. That generated a one-off cash payment for the radiotherapy department. Not only that, but the extracted silver will be sold on to the Royal Mint in Llantrisant and potentially used to make jewellery. Business confidence in Wales rose eight points during April to 38%, according to the latest Business Barometer from Lloyds. Companies in Wales reported unchanged confidence in their own trading outlook month-on-month at 46%. When taken alongside their optimism in the economy, up 16 points to 30%, this gives a headline confidence reading of 38% (vs. 30% in March). A large wildfire continued burning overnight in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park after breaking out on Thursday afternoon. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews remained at the scene on Thursday evening as they tackled the blaze, which affected an area of around 20 square kilometres. The fire impacted forestry, peat and fine grassland, creating difficult conditions for firefighters working in the area. Wales’ leading tobacco control charity is today calling on all parties contesting the Senedd election to set out how they will deliver a Smokefree Wales, as the Tobacco and Vapes Act receives Royal Assent and becomes law. As this landmark legislation is passed, ASH Wales warns around 10 people die everyday from smoking in Wales. This legislation is the most significant tobacco control measure in a generation.
