Illustration students at the University of South Wales (USW) have been brightening up electrical boxes around Cardiff city centre as part of a collaboration with Cardiff Council. Step inside the world of the ‘Penrhyn Quarry Painting’ at Penrhyn Castle as National Trust Cymru launches a new exhibition exploring the castle’s connection to the local slate quarry and its community. Working alongside prominent local artists, ‘Ailfframio’, the new exhibition arriving at Penrhyn Castle and Garden, has been created by local community groups in response to the Henry Hawkins’ 19th Century painting of the Penrhyn Slate Quarry. He will be heading up the operations of the independent Cardiff-based organisation which is the only charity wholly dedicated to funding cancer research in Wales. A new web app created by Powys County Council will help residents and developers identify which trees in their neighbourhoods are protected. Trees which are covered by a preservation order (TPO), or are in a conservation area, cannot be felled, cut back or damaged without first getting permission to carry out the work. A man has been jailed for an assault outside the Claude Pub in Roath, Cardiff. A 25-year-old man suffered serious head and facial injuries, including a double-fractured jaw and a bleed on the brain, as result of the assault earlier this year. Some of Britain’s top airborne displays are set to delight crowds at the Wales Airshow on July 6 and 7.
