Body Armor – Its Importance and Role in Savings Lives

Law enforcement officers face many threats every day to keep their people safe from harm. Among the many threats they overcome, firearms are the most dangerous and could prove to be fatal. The creation of ballistic-resistant body armor has proved to be very fruitful and has saved many lives.

However, this has led to killers and terrorists becoming experts at targeting uncovered body parts leading to severe injuries and even death of law enforcement officers.

    Importance of a body armor

Body armor is one of the most important safety equipment for law enforcement officers and professional’s protection. But their body armor has to be upgraded and enhanced to counteract threats. Even in today’s world of technology, nobody’s armor is 100% bulletproof.

However, ballistic-resistant vests and body armor provide significant protection against many handguns and rifles. Not just that, their stab-proof models protect knives and other sharp weapons. Body vests are essential equipment every law enforcement professional should have, especially those involved in defusing riots, drills, and other daily operations.

According to a study, officers who do not wear their body armor while on duty are four times more likely to suffer a serious injury from bullets than officers who wear their body armor routinely. The study also explores the different factors that affect a law enforcement officer’s decision to wear a protective bodysuit and vest.

According to the survey results, the top reason why officers wear body armor is their safety, and the second is the agency policy. Moreover, according to the same survey, law enforcement officers tend to adhere to their agency’s policy nearly all the time, and other factors such as comfort and fit are secondary when it comes to deciding if they want to wear body armor or not. Body armors that do not fit properly are a major concern and problem.

Most heavily armed law enforcement officers who are also fully equipped rely too much on their authority and lack the basic training to diffuse high-risk situations. This leads to an increased risk of severe injuries that may prove to be fatal. This is a huge problem as the majority of the killers and terrorists come prepared for such situations while paying attention to minor details.

    Well-fit body armor

Law enforcement officers must wear well-fitted body vests. This is why if one has lost or gained weight, they should re-evaluate their measurements and get a new ballistic protection vest that best fits their new figure. Weight gain or loss can seriously alter your body’s proportions and measurements.

A little change in measurements might seem insignificant, but you must get properly fitted body armor so it can provide maximum protection and keep you alive. Go To Safe Life Defense Here → for the best ballistic protection body armors and vests.

    Body armor for females

The body armor of female officers should be designed according to the distinct female features. Different companies and manufacturers adopt different methods to accomplish this. Most manufacturers make unisex body armors available in a large spectrum of sizes with dimensions that can be adjusted and altered according to the gender of the wearer.

Many manufacturers of female body vests employ methods that involve cutting and stitching the upper torso to create space and cups for the breasts. The seam produced due to stitching is the weakest point of the vest, so during testing, shots are fired at these weak points to ensure the body vest is effective.

There should be a minimum of 1-inch overlap of fabric, and the body vest should not be too long. This is a general rule applied to all body armors to ensure they are effective and provide maximum protection. Length becomes an issue when females try to adjust the male vest onto them. This is why females must try different body armor models to find the one that best fits them.
