Jack Liam Carroll has been sentenced to 11 years in prison plus an extended licence period of four years after being found guilty of 9 charges including assault and rape.

The 27-year-old from Caerau, Cardiff, denied the charges but was found guilty of one count of rape, three counts of assault by penetration, and five counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was described in court as a high-risk to women.

During the sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court, on Wednesday, November 29 the judge commended the victim for her bravery during the trial and when she read her victim personal statement aloud in front of the defendant.

Officer in the case, Detective Sergeant Shannon Walker, from South Wales Police, said: “The victim has shown strength and tenacity throughout the investigation.

“We hope the sentencing brings some sense of closure and allows her to regain her confidence and move on with her life.

“Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for South Wales Police. We take all reports of sexual assault seriously and urge victims to come forward.”

Carroll will serve two-thirds of the custodial sentence before he will be considered for parole. He was also made subject to an indefinite restraining order and made subject to sex offender notification requirements for life.
