DevOpsGroup and Cardiff Council tackle Wales’ digital skills gap with Amazon Web Services

Cardiff-based DevOpsGroup is taking steps to help bridge the digital skills gap by working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch AWS re/Start in Wales.

AWS re/Start is a free, full-time skills development and training program enabling individuals to jump-start a career in cloud computing, a fast-growing area of IT. A technology background is not required, and the DevOpsGroup program is focused on young people in Wales aged 18+ who are unemployed and keen to re-train. The course covers everything from coding languages and technical knowledge to employment skills that will help them achieve their potential.

“There is an acute shortage of cloud computing specialists all over the UK, so we are thrilled to work with AWS to launch AWS re/Start in Wales,” says James Harvey, Divisional Director, DevOpsGroup. “This is an amazing initiative which will make a positive difference to the individuals involved while enriching the digital talent here in Wales. In addition to helping candidates develop valuable skills, we’ll introduce them to employers who desperately need people with cloud computing expertise.”

The 12-week bootcamp will be delivered online through practical training workshops and coursework. After completion successful candidates will receive AWS Cloud Practitioner certification.

DevOpsGroup, in partnership with Cardiff Council’s Into Work Advice Service, is currently recruiting 25 candidates for its first AWS re/Start cohort, which begins in mid-May.

A council spokesperson said: “Our Into Work Advice Service is pleased to be supporting DevOpsGroup to attract candidates interested in a career in cloud computing to this exciting, new program. This is a sought-after qualification and we encourage young people and those eligible with an interest in this sector to take advantage of this opportunity.”
