Gambling Industry has Embraced Facial Recognition Technology

The gambling industry has finally decided to implement Facial Recognition Technology for the security of both the players and the casinos.

Is it surprising? No. Most of the gamblers around the globe already expected this to happen. Although they do not have any idea when it will be implemented, it is something that everyone is expecting.

The gambling industry is planning to fully implement facial recognition technology in the following years, but it has to be in line with data privacy laws.

With this new technology, online and traditional casinos would provide more security to the players and the chances of fraud and scams can be lessened as well.

Playing different casino games like online slots, Baccarat, Blackjack, and more will be more secure and exciting as the gambling industry plans to use facial recognition technology to personalize the experience of the players.

What would be the impact of facial recognition technology on the gambling industry?

    Security Improvements

The gambling industry is always finding ways to improve its security. Facial recognition technology can significantly improve the security of online and traditional casinos by many folds.

There are a few ways on how facial recognition technology can help with the security of casinos.

    Identifying Underage Gamblers

Although casinos have very strict security measures to prevent underage gamblers from entering, there are times when they can bypass the security. Once they are inside, it would be very difficult to figure out if they are underage or not.

With the face recognition technology, the players would be asked to scan their faces before they can play a casino game. Your personal information will then be accessed by the game and they will determine if you are old enough to play.

If the player is underage, the game will not open and the system will alert the security that an underage person managed to slip through their hands.

    Fraud Prevention

There are online scams cases wherein a scammer would impersonate someone by using their banking or credit card info to gamble. There are security measures already in place for these issues, but facial recognition technology will prevent the fraud from using the credit or debit card of another user.

It will store the financial information of every gambler in the casino so if a certain credit card or debit card number is used in the casino, the system will immediately determine if it is the real owner or just a scammer.

Fraud can be prevented even before it starts so the financial accounts of the players would be more secure, even if they are playing mobile casinos.

    Prevent Banned Players from Entering

Casinos have rules and regulations and you have to follow them once you are inside their premises. Not adhering to these rules may result in the banning of players.

No matter how strict the security is, banned players will still be able to slip through and enter the casino. With the number of people inside, it would be very difficult for the security to determine if a certain player is banned from the casino or not.

With face recognition technology, the on-site security will be alerted immediately and they can apprehend the banned players.

    Personalised Gambling Experience

As we’ve mentioned earlier, facial recognition technology can personalize the experience of the players based on betting and purchase history. It will be tracked and stored on their individual profiles and once they play a specific game, the facial recognition technology will be able to pull up the information and the system will provide a customized experience based on their preferences.

The system can easily determine high rollers and VIPs through this technology as well.

Key Concerns on Facial Recognition Technology

While facial recognition technology provides a wide range of benefits for gamblers, there are also a lot of privacy concerns concerning this since the casinos cannot collect personal information without asking for permission from the players.

With data privacy laws being expanded worldwide because of the surge of Internet users, this kind of technology would be very hard to implement unilaterally. Australia is starting to implement this on its casinos, but it is still on the testing phase and it is not yet fully implemented. Cryptocurrency casinos, such as crypto casino sites, provide their players with the security of personal data, and give the opportunity to receive their reward for playing in cryptocurrency.

Underage gambling is an offence. You must be over 18 years old to gamble.

Any form of gambling should always be fun, playing in a way that is right for you. It’s good to set limits, take time out or set up reminders.

Please gamble responsibly and in moderation.
