This May half-term, BOOM is pulling out all the stops with a jam-packed line-up of activities and offers — perfect for families looking to mix fun, food, and a splash of friendly competition.

Located in the heart of the city centre’s Brewery Quarter, you can access it via the steps or a lift in one corner, making it accessible for everyone. Perfect if you have a pram in tow like we did.

As a family, we’re always on the lookout for something new, exciting, and a little bit different to do during the school holidays. We’ve been to Boom years ago (before children), so to be able to take them along was definitely a different experience for us. We’re also pretty sure that Boom is unique in the fact that you can take under 18s to play electronic darts.

    Family Fun Meets Competitive Energy

We were invited along to check it out and had an absolute blast. From electric darts to a bonus round of shuffleboard, the games are fast, easy to learn, and packed with fun. What’s brilliant is how they’ve been designed with all ages in mind:

    Boom Battle Cardiff
    • Electric Darts: Think traditional darts, but with a high-tech twist. With interactive games like *Killer*, *Disco Wall*, *Show Time*, and many more — including the standard 501/301 — it’s not just throwing darts, it’s full-on entertainment. Our eldest had never played before but picked it up quickly and had a fantastic time.

    • Shuffleboard: One of our family favourites. The friendly competitiveness really kicked in as we slid the pucks across the board, trying to outscore each other with a mix of tactics and luck — though sometimes we were just trying to knock each other’s puck off altogether. It’s a game that levels the playing field — perfect whether you’re 12 or 42.

Other games available: With options like axe throwing, beer pong, pool, and even karaoke, there’s something for every age and energy level.

The best part? Everything’s set up for easy access and big laughs, making it ideal for a family afternoon out or a fun reward after a busy term at school.

Fully Loaded Lunchtimes – £15 Per Person

Looking to keep the kids entertained and fed without breaking the bank? BOOM’s Fully Loaded Lunchtime deal is spot on.

For just £15 per person, you get:

    • 1 Game – Choose your favourite adrenaline-pumping activity (age restrictions may apply)
    •  1 House Beverage – From beer to soft drinks (kids get their pick too!)
    • Street Food Feast – One BOOM BITE dish per person and a fully loaded side to share between two

    Food highlights include:

    • Crispy chicken tenders
    • Truffle mac & cheese bites
    • Cauli wings
    • Loaded fries with toppings like Bacon Parmesan & Chicken Katsu (can be switched for cauliflower)
    • Mozzarella sticks, onion rings & more

And yes, we tucked into a feast — it’s as delicious as it sounds. The food arrived quickly, which is ideal when you’re trying to squeeze in lunch between games and still make it back in time for whatever else you may have planned.

    What we had:

    2 x Chicken Tenders

    Boom Battle Cardiff

We sank our teeth into these golden, crispy-coated chicken tenders, bursting with juicy, tender meat. Each piece is seasoned with a mouthwatering blend of honey and chilli salt — offering a perfect balance of savoury sweetness and subtle heat. Paired with your choice of dipping sauce, these tenders are both comforting and crave-inducing, with a satisfying crunch in every bite.

    Halloumi Fries (V)

    Boom Battle Cardiff

These are a family favourite and something we always share when out for a meal as a tasty starter. The halloumi fries are decadently rich and perfectly crisp on the outside, revealing a warm, chewy centre with a signature salty tang. They’re finished with fiery candied red chillies, fresh parsley for a herbal lift, and a pot of sticky-sweet chilli sauce for dipping — adding gentle warmth and zing. A vibrant fusion of creamy, spicy, and sweet notes in every bite.

    Fully Loaded Fries (Bacon Parmesan)

    Boom Battle Cardiff

These indulgent fries are layered with smoky, creamy baconnaise and scattered with crispy bacon bits, adding a rich, meaty depth. Crunchy fried onions bring a touch of sweetness, while sharp pickled red onions cut through with tangy contrast. A generous snowfall of grated parmesan crowns it all with a nutty, savoury punch — making each forkful a satisfying medley of textures and bold, layered flavours.

    Chicken Katsu

    Boom Battle Cardiff

A punchy twist on comfort food, these fries are blanketed in velvety, aromatic katsu curry sauce and topped with tender chicken. A vibrant salt and chilli mix adds a hint of spice, while candied red chillies deliver a sweet burn. The pickled red onions offer a bright, vinegary zing, and spring onions bring a fresh, peppery crunch. It’s a flavour bomb of creamy, spicy, tangy, and savoury — all in one.

    **Available Monday–Friday until 1:30pm | For ages 11+ | Under 18s allowed until 7pm**

2-for-1 Cocktails: Midweek Treats for the Grown-Ups

And when the kids are winding down or heading home? Time for a treat of your own. From Monday to Thursday, 4–7pm, BOOM serves up 2-for-1 cocktails. Whether you’re unwinding after a game or just in need of a little midweek pick-me-up, it’s the perfect time to raise a glass.

A Game-Changer for Family Days Out

BOOM BATTLE BAR Cardiff isn’t your usual family day out — it’s a place we would go as a couple to enjoy a few drinks and some friendly competitive games. To know that BOOM allows children — even if only for a while (one of the only places in Cardiff with these electric dartboards that does) — has just expanded our list of places to enjoy as a family.

This is a thrilling, energetic space where adults and teens can get stuck into games, share laughs, and enjoy great food. Whether you’re dodging screen time, filling up a rainy afternoon, or just want to try something completely new this half term, BOOM delivers the kind of fun that sticks with you.

    We’ll definitely be back.
