Irish garage punk band Sprints will join IDLES when they bring their world tour to the Welsh capital this summer.

IDLES will perform a headline set at TK Maxx presents Depot Live at Cardiff Castle on Friday July 12 and it is now announced they will be joined on the night by the chart-topping Dublin four-piece.

Sprints have steadily grown in stature over the last three years, sharing two acclaimed EPs and building a fearsome live reputation opening for the likes of Yard Act and Suede.

Most recently they released debut album Letter to Self to critical acclaim with NME describing it as “a dynamic album that is reflective of the muddled world we find ourselves in”, while Clash labelled it “brutally honest and personal.”

Made up of lead-singer and guitarist Karla Chubb, bassist and vocalist Sam McCann, guitarist Colm O’Reilly and drummer Jack Callan, Sprints will be the main support for IDLES while American singer-songwriter Angélica Garcia will open the show.

Formed in Bristol in 2009, IDLES’ Cardiff date is an extension to their current world tour, alongside a series of shows planned for the US and South America.

The tour coincides with the recent release of their chart-topping fifth album TANGK.

The 11-track TANGK was co-produced by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, The Smile, Beck), Kenny Beats (Denzel Curry,Vince Staples, Benee) and the band’s Mark Bowen. Extending an explosive run of unerringly stirring albums, TANGKis IDLES most ambitious and striking record yet. They launched the album with the single Dancer, which features backing vocals from LCD Soundsystem duo James Murphy and Nancy Whang.

TANGK follows IDLES’ 2021 album CRAWLER which became their third successive UK Top 10 set and led to their first two GRAMMY Award nominations – building upon previous Ivor Novello Award as well as a BRIT nomination.

The headlining show for TK Maxx presents Depot Live at Cardiff Castle is presented by promoters DEPOT Live and Cuffe and Taylor.

It’s lining up to be a stunning summer for TK Maxx presents Depot Live at Cardiff Castle. IDLES join indie music legends Manic Street Preachers and Suede and Catfish and the Bottlemen who will both play two consecutive sold-out co-headline shows, and a double-headlining show from US alt rockers The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer. There will also be headlining shows from Paul Heaton, JLS, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Avril Lavigne, Tom Grennan, Madness, Rick Astley, Crowded House, Nothing But Thieves and The National.

For the first time, TK Maxx will join Depot Live as presenting partner, as part of a new agreement with Cuffe & Taylor shows across the country.
