Owen Davies and Robert Arthur who work at Heolddu Leisure Centre stepped into action when a member of Bargoed Gold Club had become unwell.

The Golf Club contacted Heolddu Leisure Centre requesting assistance until an ambulance arrived for a gentleman who had collapsed on the course whilst playing golf. Owen and Robert, both of whom are first aid qualified, were able to assess the gentleman upon arrival and move him onto a spinal board. The gentleman was then carefully transported inside the building to wait for an ambulance.

The gentleman remained conscious and talking whilst waiting for the ambulance and Robert stayed with him until they arrived. The gentleman is now healthy and recovering.

Cabinet Member for Leisure, Cllr Chris Morgan commented, “It is fantastic to see Team Caerphilly coming together and supporting each other. The staff at Heolddu Leisure Centre have gone above and beyond to help the community. Well done to both Owen and Robert. I hope the gentleman is resting and I wish him a speedy recovery”.

Owen and Robert both have First Aid qualifications and were able to use their skills to help and support. All leisure facility attendants across the county borough who complete the nationally accredited pool lifeguard course also achieve a First Aid qualification. These learnt skills allow them to deal with any first aid or defib incident that may occur.
