In a landmark initiative, YMCA Cardiff has announced the commencement of the construction of an innovative 18-bed apartment complex dedicated to providing safe and secure accommodation for young people at risk of homelessness in Cardiff.

This modern development, utilising contemporary methods of construction set to break ground this August, is a testament to the YMCAs ongoing commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of the most vulnerable members of our community.

With homelessness in a variety of different forms becoming an increasingly pressing issue, particularly among young adults, YMCA Cardiff is recognising and responding to the urgency in finding lasting solutions. This purpose-built complex, presents a   transformative approach to addressing the challenges faced by homeless youth, offering them a stable environment to rebuild their lives and create a brighter future.

Key features of the 18-bed apartment complex include:

  1. Modern, Safe, and Supportive Environment: Each apartment will be designed to provide a comfortable and nurturing space for its residents.
  2. On-site Support Services: A dedicated team of staff will offer comprehensive support services to help young residents with their unique needs, including life skills training, and access to education and employment opportunities.
  3. Community Integration: YMCA Cardiff firmly believes that community plays a crucial role in empowering individuals. The complex will be strategically located to foster positive interactions with local businesses and communities, encouraging social integration and reducing stigma.
  4. Sustainable Practices: Environmental responsibility is at the heart of the organisation’s vision. The complex will incorporate eco-friendly technologies to minimise its carbon footprint and promote sustainable living practices and utilise green technologies.

With commitment to making this project a resounding success, YMCA Cardiff is seeking the support and collaboration of local businesses in and around Cardiff. Sponsorship opportunities abound, YMCA Cardiff Group invites interested parties to join them in making a profound difference in the lives of young people at risk of homelessness.

Andrew Templeton, CEO of YMCA Cardiff Group expressed his enthusiasm regarding the new development:

“This is not just a building; it is a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of collective action. We firmly believe that by providing these young individuals with a stable and nurturing environment, we can empower them to overcome adversity and unlock their true potential. As the build commences this August, we eagerly anticipate the positive impact this modern, green apartment complex will have on the lives of young people at risk of homelessness across Cardiff.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank our funders, Welsh Government and The Hodge Foundation for supporting our vision with this development and for the Cardiff YMCA (1910) Trust for working in partnership with the YMCA to bring this vision to reality. “
