St John Ambulance Cymru are looking to turn thrill-seekers into fundraisers this summer, with two zipline challenges in support of the charity’s dedicated volunteers.

The Zipline for Lifesavers challenge is taking place at Zip World locations in both South and North Wales this June. Participants will need to raise sponsorship for the first aid charity to take on either of these iconic experiences by themselves or as part of a group.

Those based in South Wales will be taking on the Pheonix Zipline, the fastest seated zipline in the world on Saturday 1st June at Zip World Tower in Hirwaun. Participants will reach speeds of up to 70mph flying over the beautiful Llyn Fawr reservoir and Cynon Valley, making memories that will last a lifetime.

For those based in North Wales, the unique zipline-rollercoaster hybrid, Aero Explorer, will be available to fundraisers at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry in Bangor on Saturday 2nd June. Thrill-seekers will climb two spiral towers before launching off and gliding 400m across the vast quarry landscape.

The Zipline for Lifesavers challenge is taking place ahead of Volunteers Week 2024 and is just one way the charity is encouraging support for the work of their dedicated volunteers across Wales this year. St John Ambulance Cymru volunteers provide an essential service in the community, through first aid treatment and training.

First aid can mean the difference between a life saved and a life lost, St John Ambulance Cymru want more people across Wales to be armed with these lifesaving first aid skills. Participants who take on the iconic Zipline for Lifesavers challenge will be raising money in the form of sponsorships, to honour volunteers’ vital work keeping Wales safe.

“Not only will the challenge raise funds for a worthwhile cause in the community, but it’s also a great way to push individuals out of their comfort zone and make lasting memories” says Ellie Barnes, Fundraising and Events Officer at St John Ambulance Cymru.

“It could be a great experience for colleagues, friends or family looking to fundraise together, or for individuals who’d like to get involved in an unusual charity challenge.

“The challenge was a hit last year and participants loved getting stuck in, so we can’t wait to see the public’s reaction this time around!”

You can register for the Zipline for Lifesavers challenge here. By signing up and pledging to raise the minimum sponsorship of £100, participants will receive a huge 50% discount on the standard Zip World booking fee.
