    The Best And Worst Places To Own An Electric Car In Wales

    Electric cars have been steadily gaining in popularity in recent years, with many people looking to take advantage of their zero-emission capabilities.

    The fact is that not everyone is aware of the best and worst places to own an electric car in Wales.

    Swansea is a great place for people who want to own an electric car, while other places in Wales are trying to cope up but do not have the required number of EV charging stations to fulfill the needs of their population as yet.

    Here is a chart with the best places to own an EV in Wales based on the number of public EV charging points available per 100,000 people.

    1. Swansea – 80
    2. Cardiff – 64
    3. Newport – 27
    4. Rhondda Cynon Taf – 19

    Swansea Invites EV Charging Technology Leaders

    Swansea has a population of 314,000 people, with leaders in EV charging technology like GRIDSERVE and Moto already having opened rapid EV charging hubs in Wales.

    The new charging points installed by Clenergy EV in 13 council-owned car parks around Swansea enable EV drivers to charge their cars while at the shops or on a trip to the beach. This effectively means there are 80 charging points across Swansea’s 25 council car parks.

    Cardiff finding EV Charging Solutions to match Its Population Size

    Another great place to own an electric car in Wales is the city of Cardiff. With a population of over 485,000 people, Cardiff has 64 charging points in places like Greyfriars Road, St David’s, Texaco Ninian, and North Road Car Park, which means that there are a fair number of public car chargers available for use.

    Places with fewer Electric Vehicles may surprise many in Future

    Many people prefer living in less crowded places in Wales. This makes Newport with a population of approximately 319,000 a good alternative for those who want to own an electric car but want to live in a less crowded region than Cardiff.

    Tesla has opened public supercharging stations at places like Stoneleigh Park Lodge and Cannon Park Shopping Center, which means that non-Tesla car owners can also charge their vehicles at these locations. Earlier, Swarco set up its E.Connect smart charging station at Aldi Shultern Lane, so drivers have access to the latest speed-charging stations in Newport.

    Rhondda Cynon Taf Takes Steps To Increase EV Charging Stations

    Based on the population/number of public car charger statistics, it can be seen that Rhondda Cynon Taf is trying to increase its existing capacity to charge electric vehicles. With a population of just over 340,000, there are 19 public charging points already available out of more than 70 installations awaiting connection or commissioning, and the council has prepared a master plan to increase the number of charging stations by 2030.

    With the majority of people living in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Newport, Merthyr Tydfil, and Aberystwyth having access to EV charging stations, most drivers in other locations across Wales will have to travel a fair distance to access a public charging station.

    The situation is changing rapidly and we should see more charging stations opening up in Wales in 2023 and beyond.
