This is the Boiler the Government want you to Have

When it comes to boilers, the government has one simple message: don’t waste your money on outdated technology. If you’re looking at upgrading your boiler, there are much better options than a traditional gas or oil model.

Biomass boilers have been around for decades but only recently have they started to become more popular with homeowners due to their efficiency and low running costs. A biomass boiler uses pellets or chips made from recycled wood as its fuel source, making them more  sustainable and environmentally friendly. They’re more efficient than traditional models too, coming with over a 90% efficiency rating compared to 80% for other types of boiler.

Cost and grants for biomass boilers

The cost of a biomass boiler is higher than that of a gas or oil boiler, but it’s also more efficient, coming with a high efficiency rating. In other words, you’ll get more heat from your wood pellets than you would from oil.

A regular boiler will use around 50kg of fuel to heat your water for a year – about £1,000 worth in total. Over 20 years this figure is even greater at £20k – but with an efficient biomass system you can expect to pay about half as much for wood pellet fuel over the same period (around £5k).

With the Boiler Upgrade Scheme the government is incentivising the upgrade to biomass boilers and you may be eligible for a grant to help you buy a biomass boiler.

The grant is only available to homeowners who already have gas, oil or electric boilers. If you are not replacing your old boiler with another type of fuel then you won’t be able to claim it.

The amount of money that’s offered will depend on what type of technology has been installed in the home before and how well insulated it is.

Replace the old with the new and better version

When your boiler reaches the end of its life you will have to replace it. It is better to do this before it fails, as a broken boiler can cause serious damage to your home.

Replacing a traditional boiler with a biomass boiler is an environmentally friendly option for replacing an old heating system with one that will be more efficient and reliable in the future.

If you’re looking for a boiler that’s more eco-friendly, efficient and cost effective than traditional boilers, biomass boilers are a great alternative to oil and gas boilers. These types of boilers use wood chips or pellets to produce heat instead of fossil fuels. They’re also much more efficient at converting the energy in biomass into heat than traditional oil and gas boilers because they have higher combustion temperatures. This means that they produce less CO2 pollution per unit of fuel used.

There are many benefits to using biomass fuel:

    • Biomass is renewable – unlike coal or oil which will eventually run out
    • There is less carbon dioxide emissions when burning wood compared with fossil fuels such as natural gas and electricity generated from coal plants so it’s better for the environment too!

If you care about the environment, installing a biomass boiler could be the right choice for you.
