The Shawshank Redemption is the nation’s favourite film of all time, Showcase Cinemas launches 90s Flashback film series with tickets just £6.99.

Titanic has been named Cardiff’s favourite ever 90s film, new national research reveals today.

The study, conducted by Showcase Cinemas, saw the James Cameron epic take 12% of the vote, narrowly edging out The Shawshank Redemption (10%) and Pulp Fiction (10%).

On a national level, 1990s hit The Shawshank Redemption(16%) was crowned the UK’s favourite movie of all time, beating out competition from Titanic (15%) and 70s cultural phenomenon Star Wars (14%).

The survey, which was carried out to celebrate Showcase’s Flashback film series, also revealed the nation’s top 10 favourite movies from the 1990s.

    BRITAIN’S TOP 10 90s FILMS
    The Shawshank Redemption
    Titanic
    Forest Gump
    Toy Story
    Schindler’s List
    Terminator 2: Judgement Day
    The Silence of the Lambs
    The Lion King
    The Matrix
    Saving Private Ryan

Screening at Showcase Cinemas nationwide, ‘Flashback to the 90s’ kicks off on March 29th with Fight Club giving film fanatics the opportunity to fall in love all over again with some of the best films from one of the UK’s favourite movie decades.

After Fight Club, released 25 years ago and starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, Sci-fi action film Demolition Man returns to the big screen on April 12th, and Danny Boyle’s cult classic Trainspotting from May 24th.

The following month, film fans can take on a dystopian future in The Matrix – also celebrating its 25th anniversary – from June 14th, followed by superhero classic Blade on July 12th.Tickets for all films are also a throwback at just £6.99.

Delving into what makes a film our favourite, nearly two thirds (62%) of Brits said their number one film is one they can re-watch time and time again, while almost a third of respondents (30%) said their favourite film reminds them of a specific period in their life.

As such, the UK’s top movie choices are most likely to be from late teens (18%), twenties (17%) or childhood (14%).

Jon Dixon, UK Marketing Director at Showcase Cinemas, said: “The 1990s has provided us with some of the most memorable movie moments of all time, so it’s no surprise to see Titanic crowned Cardiff’s favourite film from the decade.

“Our 90s flashback film series promises to provide cinemagoers with some of the classics from that period, so we’re excited to see film fans sit back and relive some of the moments on the big screen once again.”
