Football originated in England in 1863, and it’s been around for more than 100 years, and college football has been around since 1869, and the first football rules were written not until November 23, 1876. Indeed, the sport has been around for numerous centuries, and it’s only getting popular.

If you’re thinking of watching college football games, placing your bets, or learning more about NCAAF, then you’re on the right page! This page combines the top five memorable moments in college football history that every fan should know!

    The First Ever Game

If it weren’t for the first-ever football college football game back on November 6, 1869, it would have taken a long time before football became much more well-known. The College of New Jersey, now called Princeton University, took on Rutgers in an away game and lost in their first game. However, Princeton won against the same Rutgers squad a week later. This moment is undoubtedly significant to the history of college football.

    Texas 41, USC 38

The 2005-2006 National Championship game between Texas Longhorns and USC Trojans is one of the best games in the BCS era and college football in terms of finish and star power. It was back on January 4, 2006, and the Trojans were on a 34-game winning streak; it was led by Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush, two of the Heisman winners. This moment happened at the height of the USC dynasty.

Longhorns quarterback, Vince Young, had other plans for the game. He accomplished a total of 467 total yards of offense, and Young scored a go-ahead touchdown with 19 seconds remaining on the clock.

It was the 2006 Rose Bowl, where two undefeated teams of the season battled on the field. This game remains one of the most classic, memorable, and exciting games in the industry that fans will remember forever. The best games often have exciting college football odds which makes betting on it more fun and fulfilling.

Boise State’s Trick Plays in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl

Another memorable moment happened on January 1, 2007, in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. The undefeated Boise State sadly couldn’t get any respect in the BCS polls. So the team had to take matters into their own hands and earn their spot in the Fiesta Bowl against college football titans, Oklahoma.

They jumped out to an early 18-point lead, and the Broncos just watched their leading pots slip away in the second half of the game. Then, Jared Zabransky, Boise’s quarterback, threw a pick-six with just one minute remaining in the game, which gave the Sooners a 35-28 lead.

This moment is when the magic during the 2007 Fiesta Bowl happened. Boise State played three of the most memorable plays in NCAA football history” the Statue of Liberty in overtime, the hook-and-ladder during the regulation’s final moments, and the halfback-option pass.

To top all the memories created during this moment, Ian Johnson, the Broncos running back, proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend a few moments after the win. It’s genuinely one of the most action-packed games in college football.

    Walter Camp Rule Changes

President Theodore Roosevelt made an order to change and create new rules for football since it was too violent in the past. With the help of Walter Camp, the “Father of American Football,” he came up with a concept of the snap, the safety and offensive system (that’s seven men on the line, and four in the backfield, a scoring system (it was subsequently improved a bit), and the four-down system.

Without the incredible contribution of Walter Camp, the game would most likely be inoperative now.

    2018 CFP National Championship

This moment may be the most recent moment on this list, and it involves Tua Tagovailoa and how he saved the day.

Most college football fans remember how magnificent Jalen Hurts played and strived to get Alabama into the National Championship game. Jalen Hurts led his team, the Crimson Tide, to the title game the previous year; however, they lost to Clemson.

Unfortunately for the team, Hurts struggled in the first half, which made the head coach, Nick Saban, instruct the player to go to his bench and switch out the freshman, Tua Tagovailoa, in the field.

In the second half of the game, Tua Tagavailoa sparked a comeback for the University of Alabama’s football team, which sent the game into overtime. After the disastrous experience, they went through in the first half, Tagavailoa managed to fire a long and high arch pass down to DeVonta Smith and the left sideline. Smith ran to the right into the endzone, which enabled the team to win a 26-23 victory.

Tua Tagovailoa brought things around, earned a championship trophy, and eventually earned one of the most memorable moments in college football history.

    Final Thoughts

If it weren’t for the abovementioned memories, college football wouldn’t be as popular as it is now. Football, including college football, has a rich history. It had its ups and downs that numerous avid fans remember, and this article compiles the most memorable ones that even your father or grandfather may remember!
