Last month we appealed for information on an attempt robbery in Cardiff city centre.

Two men have now been sent to prison, thanks to good teamwork by CCTV operators, response officers and detectives.

On Friday March 1, 2024, a 19-year-old man was walking down Barrack Lane, behind M&S in Cardiff city centre, at around 10:30pm when two men wearing balaclavas, riding bikes, assaulted him and demanded his phone.

He refused, called out for the help, and the suspects ran off when disturbed by a passing food delivery person.

Police were contacted and CCTV operators began an immediate search of the city centre for the suspects.

They were seen on camera on Wood Street near the Vue Cinema, and David Parsons and Jordan Chapman were arrested.

Parsons, 36, was found to have a large knife and weighing scales in his rucksack.

Chapman, 27, was found with wraps of cannabis, £700 cash and a burner phone.

    • Both men pleaded guilty and were sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, May 17.
    • Chapman was sentenced to 16 months in prison for the attempt robbery, plus six months to run concurrently for possession of cannabis with intent to supply.
    • Parsons was sentenced to 15 months in prison for the attempt robbery, plus four months to run concurrently for possession of a knife.

Officer in the case, Detective Constable Lenka Hedley said: “The victim has been suffering panic attacks since this frightening incident. We hope the sentence provides some comfort and allows him to regain his confidence.”
