Vivien Parry confirmed in title role of Sherman Theatre’s The Wife of Cyncoed

Stage and screen actor Vivien Parry has been cast in the title role of Sherman Theatre’s forthcoming production, The Wife of Cyncoed by Matt Hartley (7-23 March 2024).

Vivien recently starred as Fraulein Schneider in the hit West End show Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club; the most-awarded musical revival in the Olivier Awards’ history. Elsewhere in the West End, she has performed in Les Misérables, Mamma Mia, Top Hat, Half a Sixpence and many more. Her other theatre credits include Sydney and the Old Girl (Park Theatre), Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Royal Shakespeare Company, and 13 Theatr Clwyd productions including Blackthorn, Macbeth and Shakespeare’s Will. On the big screen, Vivien has also appeared in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Vivien said: “Cardiff is a city that always has my heart. I’m from a south Wales valleys family but work, love, friendships and rugby always draw me back to Cardiff. I’m thrilled to be performing this role in this theatre; both firmly rooted in a city I love.”

Written by Matt Hartley and directed by Hannah Noone, The Wife of Cyncoed is an entertaining monologue introducing Jayne, a divorcee approaching a crossroads in her life.

Set in the Cardiff suburbs of Cyncoed and Lakeside, it is a tale of self-discovery and second chances, bursting with humanity. The Wife of Cyncoed is the first production in Sherman Theatre’s 2024 season; seven productions including five brand new plays sharing south Wales stories that resonate the world over.

Jayne’s life is at a crossroads. Brought up in Rumney, she lived it up in Cyncoed, but after a bitter divorce she found herself living alone in Lakeside. Newly retired and at odds with her kids, a new way of living suddenly opens to her. But will she give herself permission to live her new life fully?

Joining Director Hannah Noone in the creative team are Designer April Dalton, Composer & Sound Designer Sam Jones and Lighting Designer Katy Morison.
