Communities in the north of the Caerphilly county borough look set to benefit from a £1million boost to help generate further jobs and growth in the area.

The council’s Cabinet will be asked to approve the funding at its meeting this week (Wednesday 22 July).

The money will help support a Northern Valleys Initiative, focusing on economic regeneration and growth in the communities that need it most.

The money will also help leverage further funding from the Cardiff Capital Region – a key partnership between Caerphilly and nine other local authorities across the region.

Last month saw the announcement of £3million investment in Oakdale Business Park through the Cardiff Capital Region and CCBC. The additional £1million will be used to ensure greater employment opportunities are secured across the whole north of the county borough.

“Ever since becoming Leader of the Council I have pledged to support for all parts of the county borough and it is clear that we need bold action to improve opportunities in the northern communities,” said Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Leader of Council.

“Over the coming months, I will be prioritising more of my time working the best I can to get further investment and I will keep residents and businesses updated in due course,” he added.

This new initiative follows council plans to repair the A469 at Troedrhiwfuwch and the confirmation of £20million from UK Government for investment in Aberbargoed, Bargoed and New Tredegar as part of the ambitious ‘Pride in Place’ programme.

Cllr Eluned Stenner, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance, who also represents the New Tredegar ward said, “Our communities in the north of the county borough deserve to have good quality jobs and investment, so this £1million investment is welcomed and very much needed.”
