Welsh restaurant group launches Spanish wine subscription club

Spanish bar and restaurant group Ultracomida has launched a new, nationwide wine subscription service.

The independent boutique operators – who run two, award-winning Ultracomida deli-restaurants in the coastal towns of Narberth and Aberystwyth, as well as Curado Bar and Vermut bar in Cardiff city centre – are well known for bringing a casual dining style influenced by Northern Spain to Wales.

But since 2010, they have also offered a huge range of imported Spanish produce for national home delivery via their online shop. Through personal connections with suppliers and very few links in the supply chain, they stay close to the people behind the produce, and offer an extensive range that can’t easily be found elsewhere in the UK.

Launching just in time for Christmas gifting, Ultracomida’s brand new ‘Spanish Wine Club’ will operate as a monthly subscription service.

Subscribers will pay £35 a month by Direct Debit to receive 12 bottles of hand-picked Spanish wines, up to the value of £140, every three months. These will be home delivered 3-10 days after the third payment, with no delivery charges.

A welcome bottle of wine will also be delivered at the beginning of the subscription.

    Ultracomida co-founder Paul Grimwood said:

“We are really excited to be launching our new wine subscription service, which is all about giving people a chance to try the variety of Spanish wines that we are so passionate about – the same wines we serve in our bars / restaurants in Wales. During the first lockdown our online wine sales really picked up and we now have a lot of repeat customers looking for new styles to try – that’s what gave us the idea to create the ‘Spanish Wine Club’.

Each case of twelve will be different, will include a mix of styles, and can be tailored to include reds, whites or a mix. We’ll include an overview of each of the wines, so that people can get to know them better, and longer term, we’re hoping to expand the club to include members events, both online, and potentially in our restaurants / bars in a not-too distant post-COVID future.”
