Meet the company behind Cardiff’s iconic Christmas lights

A leading South Wales-based floodlighting and electrical installation and maintenance organisation has won a competitive contract to install Cardiff’s Christmas lights.

Pontyclun company Floodlighting and Electrical has been awarded the contract by Cardiff Council to install the city’s Christmas lights for the next four years.

Ahead of the most recent contract win, Floodlighting and Electrical had already worked with Cardiff Council for over thirty years on the capital’s festive lighting.

Originally using rope lighting with tens of thousands of individual golf-ball lamps which required regular maintenance during the holiday season, the company’s lighting solutions have evolved along with technological advances to LED lights which have greater longevity, brightness and energy efficiency.

Over a million LED lights, which take ten weeks to install and three weeks to test, will be installed and maintained on 25 streets in and round the city centre. The longest stretch of lights, one kilometre of icicle style lights, will be installed on St Marys Street and High Street.

    Gareth Roberts

Gareth Roberts, Managing Director of Floodlighting and Electrical, said: “We are thrilled that we will be continuing to provide Cardiff’s Christmas lights for the next four years.

“The festive lights are always a source of joy for both residents and visitors to the capital, and we are proud to supply some Christmas cheer, particularly this year which has been difficult for so many.”
