We could probably all do with some extra calm and relaxation as 2020 comes to an end. So it’s no surprise that Google Play chose to highlight Medito in it’s list of top apps for 2020.

Medito, the meditation app made by nonprofit Medito Foundation, is a winner in the Apps for Good category. In this category, Google aims to highlight mission-driven and user-friendly apps that address some of the most pressing issues we face as a society.

Medito Foundation is a volunteer-led organisation dedicated to improving mental wellbeing, which is why they offer the Medito app completely free of charge.

Three out of four of Medito Foundation’s founders are from Caerphilly – brothers Steven and Gareth Yorke and their childhood friend, Mike Speed.

Steven said ‘We are absolutely thrilled to be recognized by Google Play as one of the best apps of 2020. We know that meditation and mindfulness have the potential to help countless people to improve their mental wellbeing, especially in these tough times. We’re so happy that Google has highlighted the importance of mental wellbeing by recognizing Medito in the Apps for Good category.

The app includes a beginner and intermediate course, sleep sounds & meditations, breathing exercises and a stress & anxiety pack. There are also meditations specifically designed to help people deal with the stresses of the pandemic.

With help from volunteers around the world, Medito Foundation is constantly adding new mindfulness, meditation and sleep content to the app, meaning that the quality and quantity of content rivals that of paid apps created by much larger, profit-making corporations.

The app was only released in April of this year, but it has already been downloaded more than a quarter of a million times, and has a 4.8 star rating on Google Play and 5 star rating on the App Store.
