Picture specialist James Forster is offering institutions and people residing in Wales and the Welsh Marches a route to London’s international art market in his new role.

James has joined West London based auctioneers, Chiswick Auction, as a consultant picture valuer to provide professional valuations and a route to sale for paintings and works of art from all eras and mediums.

Having lived in South Shropshire for the last six years, he knows Wales and the Welsh Marches well from his time as head of the picture department at Halls Fine Art in Shrewsbury.

With fine art market salerooms reopening to the public in April, James cannot wait to get out and meet clients again.

In addition to his role with Halls, he has previously worked for Sotheby’s in London as a picture valuer as well as running his own consultancy business, providing a valuation and auction service to private clients.

He has a detailed and broad knowledge of the fine art market, especially modern British paintings, including Welsh 20th century works, as well as many established artists from the 18th and 19th centuries.

“I am really looking forward to my new role with Chiswick Auctions, one of the most progressive auction houses in the country,” said James. “My priority is to provide a personal service to clients and to offer them a route to the London market for their paintings”.

“Being based in London, Chiswick Auctions has access to the international market with a large database of buyers and collectors, which is very beneficial when it comes to achieving the best possible price for consigned items.

“I am keen to showcase the Welsh art market, which is maturing and I think will benefit greatly from exposure in London. Chiswick Auctions offers a broad range of auctions, from old master drawings through to Urban art, and are ideally situated in West London with a large and growing private buyer base. They routinely consign items from throughout the UK and the continent”.

“Although paintings are my main priority, I am happy to provide a formal valuation service for entire house contents for probate or insurance purposes.”

James is happy to arrange private appointments to view collections or individual paintings, works of art or antiques and is looking forward to working with charities within the region to hold valuation events. James may be contacted on Tel 07887 597302, email [email protected]
