TRIBUTES have been paid to a Welsh Ambulance Service call handler who has passed away at the age of 28.

Louise Thomas was a 999 EMS Call Handler based in Cwmbran, having joined the Trust in August 2019.

Louise, from Cefn Hengoed, had a genetic condition and had recently been diagnosed with cancer, for which she was receiving treatment.

She passed away at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff on 09 April.

Penny Durrant, the Trust’s Clinical Contact Centre Manager in Cwmbran, said: “Louise was a popular and valued member of the team, and despite the challenges with her health resulting in periods of absence, she was always eager to return to the job that she loved.

“Louise’s loss has been felt deeply by everyone here at Vantage Point House in Cwmbran and I’m sure all of us at #TeamWAST extend our deepest sympathies to Louise’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.”

Louise’s colleague Kayleigh Donaldson, also an EMS Call Handler, said: “Louise loved life and knew how to have fun; her positive thinking and funny wit always got us laughing every single shift.

“She loved the job and being part of ‘Team Green’ and it was an absolute pleasure to have known her.”

Chief Executive Jason Killens said: “Although Louise had only worked with us for a short while, she made a lasting impression on her friends and colleagues, who I know will miss her dearly.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with Louise’s loved ones at this difficult time.”

Louise’s funeral will take place next week.
