Services for residents who are affected by domestic abuse are changing in Bridgend County Borough.

Bridgend County Borough Council’s new Assia Domestic Abuse Service supports those who are directly impacted or worried about a relative or friend.

The service is named in honour of Assia Newton, from Pencoed, who was tragically murdered in her home in July 2013 after decades of domestic abuse.

Support is available for people from all backgrounds and is confidential – you don’t have to give your name.

The friendly and experienced team can offer advice and guidance, a refuge, safety planning, and a risk assessment so specialists can tailor support to you and your family. It is also the route to get support for children who have experienced domestic abuse.

For more information, visit the Assia Domestic Abuse Service website. To access support, call 01656 815919 between Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5pm or email [email protected]. Alternatively, you can fill out a contact form on the website and a member of the team will get in touch.

In an emergency you should contact the police 999 or 101 for non-emergency. For 24-hour support you can contact the Live Fear Free helpline on 0808 80 10 800.
