Legal & General Retirement Institutional (“LGRI”) has donated £10,000 to Just Like Us (“the Charity”), a non-profit organisation that tackles homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying. The Charity aims to make education more inclusive and to improve the lives of LGBT+ young people across the UK.
The donation will go towards the Charity’s Ambassador programme, which sees the Charity recruit, train and support LGBT+ young people aged 18-25 to become volunteer ambassadors. Once trained, the Charity’s ambassadors will go into schools and colleges to deliver talks and workshops empowering young people and championing and celebrating LGBT+ inclusion and equality.
The Charity’s Cardiff hub already has 18 ambassadors, who have spoken to 140 of the city’s school pupils this academic year.
This donation, which builds on £10,000 donated by Legal & General last year, will help support the Charity’s plans to more than double the size of the Cardiff hub team, with the recruitment of 20 new ambassadors. This will help Just Like Us on its target of reaching over 2,000 pupils in Cardiff over the next year through its school talks programme.
Legal & General employees will also be providing training and mentorship to the Charity’s ambassadors around career and public speaking skills.
