Walk-in vaccination clinics setup in Mountain Ash

Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB is holding its first COVID-19 vaccine walk-in clinics.

This week’s walk-ins are for any adult who lives in the Health Board area and is yet to have their first dose.

They are being held at Mountain Ash community vaccination centre based at the Cynon Valley Indoor Bowls Centre.

This Thursday (June 24) and Friday (June 25) the walk-in slots are available from 9:30 – 12:30 and then 1:15 to 3:30.

87 percent of eligible adults have had their first dose, and the latest figures show 58 percent have had both and are fully vaccinated.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB’s Director of Public Health, Dr Kelechi Nnoaham said:  “While we’re really pleased so many people have taken up our offer of a vaccine, we remain absolutely determined that nobody will be left behind.

“Part of that is to try and make the whole process as easy as possible which is where these walk-in clinics come from.

The walk-in clinics mean you do not need an appointment and can just turn up on the relevant day to you, at a time to suit you, and receive your first dose.

Dr Kelechi Nnoaham said: “There will be some people who weren’t sure about having the vaccine when they were first offered it and have now changed their mind.

“That is good news and our teams will be delighted to see you and the walk-ins mean you can be in and out with the minimum amount of fuss.”

Second dose appointments will be running alongside the walk-ins and depending on vaccine supply, Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB is trying to bring forward second doses whenever possible.

Dr Kelechi Nnoaham said:  “We cannot hide from the fact that unfortunately we are once again facing a serious situation because of the spread of the delta variant.

“The emerging evidence strongly suggests two doses of the vaccine is helping to reduce the risk of hospitalisation, and this is why it is so important to get both doses to be fully vaccinated.

“We have all missed out on so much since the start of this pandemic, and I truly believe having your vaccine is the best way to get life going again.”

If you do not want to walk-in and would prefer an appointment, anyone over the age of 18 who has not had their first dose can book themselves an appointment at one of our community vaccination centres across Cwm Taf Morgannwg.  Call 01443 281163 and select option three or alternatively head to Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB’s website and fill in the first dose form:  COVID-19 Vaccine Information – Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board
