Feasibility Study for Accommodation at Llancaiach Fawr Manor approved by Cabinet

Cabinet members at Caerphilly County Borough Council have approved an investment to the tune of £20,000 to take forward a regeneration project in Llancaiach Fawr Manor (LFM).

The latest project approved by Cabinet at a virtual meeting that took place on Wednesday 23rd June will allocate £10,000 Licence to Innovate Funding towards the provision of A Feasibility Study for Accommodation at LFM and a further £10,000 for a 12 month commercial training plan, as approved by the Regeneration Project Board.

In February 2021, the Licence to Innovate Assessment Panel considered a proposal to locate a number of bell tents and provide a site for self-contained touring caravans at LFM. The aim was to take advantage of the imminent increase in staycation demand. The approval of this by Cabinet will strive to support the existing demand for wedding venues by providing accommodation on site for guests.

Whilst the panel was supportive of the principle of providing accommodation on site, some concern was expressed that the tents and caravans might not be sympathetic to the look, feel and ethos of LFM. The funding will be used to progress initial feasibility work. The decision to undertake this feasibility study will enable the Council to look at a wide range of longer-term options for accommodation at LFM as well as likely revenue streams, set up costs, sustainability and market research.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, Leader of the Council, said: “The initiatives delivered through the Regeneration Project Board Development Fund strive to maximise the investment the Council is making, to deliver much wider benefits for the county borough. The Licence to Innovate fund demonstrates Caerphilly Council’s ethos as an organisation of operating with a commercial head and social heart. We strive to invest in projects such as the delivery of accommodation at Llancaiach Fawr Manor which offer the potential for income generation that can be reinvested into services for our residents.”
