A new £23,000 play park has opened at Waun Cimla in Kenfig Hill offering children a safe place to play.

The park is one of three across Bridgend County Borough which have been funded by the Welsh Government’s Play Sufficiency project which enabled play equipment to be replaced. Funding was also secured for Coychurch Play Area and Pandy Crescent Play Area.

The Play Sufficiency Duty comes as part of the Welsh Government’s anti-poverty agenda which recognises that children can have a poverty of experience, opportunity and aspiration, and that this kind of poverty can affect children from all social, cultural and economic backgrounds across Wales.

Waun Cimla’s new park is the first to open in the area and provides children with several fun activities to enjoy including a see-saw, a rope climbing frame and a tyre swing.

Cllr Andrew Radmore, Chair of Pyle Community Council, said: “I am delighted the community council has been able to work in partnership with the Welsh Government and Bridgend County Borough Council to provide the new play park at Waun Cimla, Kenfig Hill.

“There has been no play provision in this area of Kenfig Hill for many years and the new park has been very well received by local residents.”

By working collaboratively with Welsh Government and community councils, we have been able to secure funding totalling £112,000 for the three play areas helping to make a real difference for young families in the community.

It’s exciting to see the transformation all three play parks completed and to see children and families making the most of them already.

Councillor Stuart Baldwin, Cabinet Member for Communities
