Work has begun on Briton Ferry’s new CCTV network

Neath Port Talbot Council staff have started work on installing a new CCTV system in Briton Ferry which will be used to protect people and property and be a deterrent to crime and anti-social behaviour.

The new CCTV network, expected to be up and running within the next few weeks and paid for by Briton Ferry Town Council, will feature the latest digital camera technology giving ultra high definition images.

The new Wi-Fi connected system, which will feature different types of camera for different parts of Briton Ferry, will be equipped with privacy technology, which means only those areas which need to be surveilled will be looked at.

Councillor Leanne Jones, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Public Protection, welcomed the start of work on the new CCTV cameras.

She said: “These cameras featuring the very latest digital technology are one of the many tools we use, working with the Safer Neath Port Talbot Community Safety Partnership and in this case, Briton Ferry Town Council, to make communities safer.

“A CCTV system like this also provides confidence and a visible presence to give reassurance to our communities and can provide evidence to bring those responsible for crime before the courts.

“We are delighted to be working with Briton Ferry Town Council on this important project.”

Neath Port Talbot Council has recently issued a tender seeking a specialist technology firm to replace the County Borough’s entire public space CCTV system with modern, digitally connected cameras capable of producing significantly higher definition images.
