A4119 traffic light upgrades at the Talbot Road junction

RCT Council will soon start work to deliver essential traffic light upgrades at the A4119’s junction with Talbot Road – having completed similar work to the two nearby accesses to Talbot Green Retail Park in previous years.

The latest work will begin from Monday, July 26, and is likely to cause traffic delays in the area, especially at peak times. It has therefore been scheduled during the school summer holiday when there is expected to be less traffic on the road. Road users are advised to avoid the area if it all possible.

The work will upgrade the signals which have past their design life, and install latest technology equipped with a modern detection system to monitor the timing of the lights in order to minimise everyday congestion. Resurfacing at the junction, along with new road markings, will be completed as part of the work. The Council has appointed Centregreat as the scheme’s contractor.

Temporary traffic signals will be used over the six weeks of work, in order to control traffic while the permanent lights are upgraded. Each of the left turns at this junction (Talbot Road to A4119 southbound, Talbot Road to A4119 northbound and A4119 northbound to Talbot Road) will also be closed for up to two days – timed so that only one closure is in operation at any time.

Each of these closures will be advertised via signage on site seven days before they come into force, while local diversion routes will be signposted. Access for emergency services is unable to be maintained, but the contractor will ensure that all pedestrian accesses are available throughout the scheme.

The Council would like to thank residents and road users in advance for their patience as these essential works are delivered by the end of August 2021.
