The Aberdare Park National Road Races return in all their glory this weekend, once again attracting top riders from around the country and a maximum of 4,000 spectators per day.

In line with Welsh Government guidance, the Aberdare Park Road Races will take place on Saturday and Sunday (August 7-8). To facilitate this event, Aberdare Park will be closed to the public from 6:30pm on Friday, August 6, to 6:00pm on Sunday, August 8.

The Aberdare Park Road Races are a highlight of the summer events calendar for motorcycle fans who flock to Rhondda Cynon Taf for a weekend of speed and excitement in picturesque surroundings.

The event was postponed last year due to the global pandemic, but once again in 2021, some of the best riders from across the UK head to the County Borough to compete on the unique circuit around Aberdare Park.

The event, organised by Aberaman Motorcycle Club and supported by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, started in 1950.

Councillor Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “I am delighted that we are able to welcome the Aberdare Park Road Races back to our beautiful park.

“Organisers have been working closely with the Council in order to make this event as safe as possible, and I urge everyone attending to please adhere to all the guidelines in place.

“Each year the Aberdare Park National Road Races not only provides a fantastic festival of motorcycle racing, but also a great boost to local business and traders.”

In recent years, the children’s play area at Aberdare Park has been refurbished and the ever-popular pedal boats have returned to the boating lake. The Victorian fountain, commemorating the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, has also been beautifully restored to its former glory.
