Children go free at Swansea park festivals

Children will go free as parks across Swansea host a new family festival this summer.

Residents of Townhill, Waunarlwydd, Morriston, Loughor and St Thomas will be among those who won’t have to travel too far for a fun day out.

Family based activities and attractions at the series of two-day events will include two outdoor cinema screenings on the first day, followed by children’s activities including circus skills workshops, craft sessions, a bouncy castle, children’s rides, walkabout characters, sports activities and live music on the second day. Catering and a bar will be available on both days.

Swansea Parks Fest is being organised and subsidised by Swansea Council.

Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: “It’s great to be welcoming events back to Swansea and we have made some changes as we want as many families as possible to be able to enjoy these activities in our wonderful parks.

“We are keeping the entry costs as low as possible so all children 16 or under will go free when accompanied by a paying adult. We are also subsidising the adult tickets which mean they are also great value as they will get to see two films at the outdoor cinema so can make an evening of it.

“We hope the Swansea Parks Fest will help families fully enjoy their summer.”

Adult tickets are priced at £4.50 per day, and just £2.50 with concessions or £2 with a passport to leisure. All children need to be accompanied by an adult with a maximum of three children per adult for safety reasons.

Anyone who has already purchased tickets does not need to do anything as any savings will automatically be credited back to their accounts.

Event locations and dates are: Waunarlwydd Park – August 19-20, Paradise Park – August 21-22, Morriston Park – August 27-28, Parc Williams – August 29-30, Jersey Park – September 10-11. Until August 30, festival goers can enjoy free travel on local bus services from Friday-Monday.

Swansea organisations involved include Circus Eruption and Elysium Gallery. Music performers include This River, Ragsy, Soulskunks and The Revolvers.

Films vary between locations. They include Finding Nemo, The Greatest Showman, The Jungle Book and Mamma Mia!
