    Lido Ponty summer season extended

RCT Council has confirmed that the summer season for the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, will be extended due to the demand seen so far in spite of the COVID-19 restrictions.

The Lido, which on the weekend remarkably welcomed its 64,000th visitor this year, has seen a significant demand for places which has outstripped the 1,000 places-per-day capacity that the Council has been able to offer due to the Public Health restrictions in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.

In recognition of this, the Council is looking to extend the opening arrangements until Sunday, 3rd October. Commencing on Monday, September 6, all public sessions will be extended as follows:

The two early morning sessions will remain at 6:30am to 7:30am and 7:45am to 8:45am, with two afternoon sessions continuing Monday to Friday, 4:00pm to 5:00pm and 5:30pm to 6:30am. The weekend sessions will remain as normal, with the two early morning sessions followed by seven fun activity sessions commencing at 9:00am.

County Borough Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “I am pleased to confirm that the Council is seeking to extend the summer season for the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty until Sunday, 3rd October.

“Despite the limitations on the number of daily spaces we have been able to provide, the Lido has enjoyed an immensely popular season with over 64,000 people attending so far.

“In recognition of the significant demand, we are now looking to extend the summer season until Sunday, 3rd October in order to give as many people as possible the chance to enjoy the Lido.”

The restrictions on the number of spaces per day will still remain in the interests of public safety.
